Another good thing about this area is that if you don't find what you're looking for, you can just cross the street and checkout the Simsbury Commons. There is an equally long list of stores there. Some of the most popular are Boarders Books and Music, Eastern Mountain Sports, Bob's Clothing Store, and Famous Footwear. To make things even better the Simsbury Commons are home to Luna Pizza and Chili's both of which I talked about in the restaurant section of this site, in addition to Hoyts Movie Theater. So if you need a break from shopping you can grab a bite or see a movie. More Info

A unique place to check out when you are in town is in Canton called The Trading Post. The Trading Post is somewhat of a hippy store. They sell everything from retro t-shirts and used CDs, to lava lamps and fog machines. They have a huge selection of incense and incense burners. You can even get your ears, nose, belly button, eyebrows... well just about anything pierced there, and they have hundreds of earrings and every other kind of ring to choose from. They sell funny bumper stickers, candles, and posters. But I would have to say my favorite part about The Trading Post was getting some hemp and making a necklace with their great selection of hand blown glass beads. I've made dozens of necklaces over the years and I always get my beads there because they are so detailed and creative. Plus, they always have some good music playing and some incense burning while you walk around and check it out. More Info

Sartorius Sports, in Avon, is a great place to shop for all of your athletic gear. They have top quality rollerblades and skateboards, a good selection of all different types of athletic shoes, and clothing too. Skiers and snowboarders will enjoy a variety of skies, snowboards, boots, coats, gloves and ski masks. You can also find everything from bicycles to basketballs, and trampolines to golf clubs. All in all, whether you just like to walk around the neighborhood and are looking for a pedometer to tell you how far you walk or you need a new surfboard to bring with you on your next vacation, Sartorius is the place to find what you're looking for. A new mall has also been built less than ten minutes from where I used to live call The Shoppes at Farmington Valley. It was built long after I moved away but I did have one chance to check it out when I was last there, and let me tell you, it is something else. It's much larger than the Simsbury Commons or the Avon Marketplace that I mentioned above. When you walk through it you actually feel like you are walking through a little village. You can find any kind of store you could possibly want there. I would say that this mall is the place to go in the Farmington Valley if you are holiday shopping and you don't know what you are looking for, because you can find everything under the sun there. Since I have only been there once I may be the best person to describe it for you, so you might check out their website to learn more about it.
